OnePlus 5T: The New Infinity In The Android Universe

OnePlus 5T is a substantial upgrade over its predecessor, the OnePlus 5. Unlike the OnePlus 3T which had a big bump in terms of specifications, the OnePlus 5T has, more or less, the same specifications when it comes to the SoC.

This time, it’s not about the processing power or the RAM. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 is still the best chipset available in the Android market and OnePlus decided to stick to that only.

And since nothing could be done in terms of the power, OnePlus decided to upgrade the display – something which has been the hot trend in 2017. Truth be told, the screen could be the only reason for the users to switch to the OnePlus 5T.

Let’s get to know the full specifications of the device in our review of the OnePlus 5T.

OnePlus 5T: Full Specifications

The front of the device is the key highlight. The OnePlus 5T features a 6.01-inch AMOLED screen with a Full HD+ resolution. OnePlus has finally joined the league of the infinity smartphones with the device.

With an 18:9 aspect ratio, the OnePlus 5T looks sleeker than ever. The display is a pleasure to look at, the colors come out to be deep and punchy. There are no bells and whistles when it comes to the pixel density, but one would certainly not notice anything wrong with the display.

The infinity display gives the device an edge over its competitors. The phone looks pretty sleek and is one of the better looking Android smartphones of the current times.

Because of the 18:9 display, the company had to let go of the front-facing fingerprint scanner and hence, the OnePlus 5T has its fingerprint scanner mounted at the rear. According to OnePlus, the sensor provided is the fastest out of any other sensor on the market and will recognize your print within .2 seconds.

Other than the usual fingerprint scanner, OnePlus has introduced a new unlock feature which makes use of the front-facing camera and unlocks the device almost instantaneously.

Coming to the camera, the camera bump on the device is a tad bit protruded when compared with the OnePlus 5. Some changes have also been made to the cameras. The first lens (16MP) is the same. The second one, on the other hand, has been replaced with a 20MP f/1.7 sensor. The company has also introduced Quick Shot which will give the user an ability to launch the camera by double tapping a button.

If you have ever used the OnePlus 5, the OnePlus 5T is almost the same other than the display. There is a USB Type-C port, a speaker grill, and a headphone jack. They are all located in the same place just like the OnePlus 5.

This sounds fair enough considering we could not find any flaws whatsoever in the design language of the OnePlus 5.

Hardware and Software

Out of the box, the OnePlus 5T runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat and the company has assured that it would be updated to Android Oreo by Q1, 2018. There would also be a Beta release coming to the device in the month of December.

Under the hood, the OnePlus 5T packs in a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, with 6GB or 8GB of RAM supporting it. Coming to the storage, the device has two different storage variants – 64GB and 128GB. The 6/64 GB model will cost $499, while the 8/128GB model will cost $559.

If you notice the price, the difference between the prices of the OnePlus 5 and the 5T is just $20. It is, therefore, not going to be very difficult for the users to decide as to which one to go for.

The OnePlus 5T is definitely a worthy upgrade and if you are going to buy a OnePlus 5, it is a wise decision to invest in some extra bucks and go for the 5T instead. It is definitely a better option between the two.
